Prototyping of straight section components using incremental shape rolling

Flexible Roll Forming (FRF) allows the forming of components with a variable cross section along length component. However, process has only limited application in automotive industry due to wrinkling flange which currently prevents high strength steels and limits part shape complexity. This paper presents new technology, Incremental Shape Rolling (ISR), where pre-cut blank is clamped between two dies, then single roll used incrementally form material desired shape. The similar some Sheet (ISF) approaches but difference that (ISR) manufacture longitudinal from metal sheets. In this work, numerical model ISR straight developed. Experimental prototyping trials are performed validate applied analyse process. results show ISR, tensile residual strains developed flange. Flange observed directly linked number passes
